BB John William (William)
In Pennsylvania, papers of Rev.
Schumacher show John William, son of John and Anna Barbara, baptized 8/21/1757,
twelve weeks old ‑‑‑ indicating a birth date of 5/‑‑/1757;
BCGS records show 4/30/1757. William
next appears in 1775 in the records of the Rosenthal Church (also known as New
Bethel Union Church), Albany township, Berks county, PA, (ROSE), where in 1775
"John W. Kistler" served as godfather to a child of Susanna and
Lawrence Bachman (his sister and brother‑in‑law).
The listing of communicants for Friedens Church (also
known as the White Church), Albany township, Berks county, PA, (FRD), show
William as a steady communicant from 1808 until his death. LDS microfilm records for the Friedens
Church show that William died 3/18/1821.
William's wife, Dorothea, is named in
numerous entries in church records (e.g., William and Dorothea, parents of
Daniel). Otherwise, there is no record
of marriage.
William's will (Will Book 1, pages
413‑414, Lehigh county, PA) is dated 5/3/1820 and was probated
4/7/1828. The will names the following
children:
Daniel BBB
Peter BBA
Matthew BBC
Maria BBD
(wife of
Heinrich/Heinbach)
Elizabeth BBE
(wife
of Jacob Bauscher)
Magdalena BBF
(wife
of Peter Bachman)
BCGS records
show William married twice ‑‑ first to Eva Dorothea Hauer and then
to Christina Shollenberger. Also, two
additional children are named ‑‑ Johannes (m. Catherine Ohlinger)
and Charles. Neither are named in
John's will dated in 1820.
BBA Peter
Neither birth
nor death records have been located.
However, from the ages of his siblings and his children, he probably was
born about 1785. Based on Berks county,
PA, administrative records which named his brother-in-law, John Stein, as
executor of Peter's estate, it appears that Peter died about 1823. Court records in Berks county, PA, show
Peter's children as Catherine, Eliza, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Sarah.
Baptismal
records for Peter's children identify his wife as Elizabeth. Her maiden name probably was Stein. In addition to John Stein (Peter's
brother-in-law who served as executor of Peter's estate) see also George Stein
who served as godparent to Joseph, (BBAC).
BBAA Elizabeth
FRD records
show Elizabeth, born 4/28/1806, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth, godparents
William and Dorothea (BB). Court
records in Berks county, PA, identify Elizabeth as the wife of Peter Zuber.
BBAB Rebecca
Records of
the Jerusalem Church (also known as the Red Church), Stony Run, Berks county,
PA, (JER), show Rebecca, born 2/17/1808, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth,
godparents Jacob Bauscher and Elizabeth Kistler (BBE).
Court records
in Berks county, PA, do not show Rebecca as an heir of Peter; she probably died
young.
BBAC Joseph
FRD records
show Joseph, born 2/10/1812, son of Peter and Elizabeth, godparents George
Stein and Maria Kistler. Court records
in Berks county, PA, show Joseph as a heir of Peter.
Joseph
married Susanna Roth (her maiden name is shown on the death certificate of son
Daniel). The 1850 Census records for
Schuylkill county, PA, show Joseph, age 38; Susanna, age 37; Sally Ann, age 14;
Henry, age 11; Mary, age 9; Levi, age 7; Sophia, age 6; Daniel, age 3; and

BBACF Daniel
R.
There is a
good deal of confusion about Daniel's birth date. His death certificate shows that he was born 11/27/1843 and died
10/11/1918; his parents are shown as Joseph Kistler and Susanna nee Roth. However, his gravestone in the St. Johns
Reformed Church Cemetery, Orwigsburg, PA, shows Daniel R. Kistler,
12/21/1846-10/11/1918; his wife is shown as Louisa, 2/11/1842- 4/3/1898. The various Census records are not helpful. Daniel, age 3, appears in the
1850 Census records for Schuylkill county, PA, in his father's household -- he
probably was age 6. The 1860 Census
records for Schuylkill county show Daniel, age 18 -- he probably was age
16.
The 1880 Census
records for Schuylkill county show Daniel, age 32 -- he probably was age 36;
Louisa, age 38; Susanna, age 10; Matilda, age 7; Morris, age 5; Ida, age 3;
Irvin, age 1; Lewis (son), age 18; and Sarah Bock (sister-in-law, single), age
43. Finally, the 1900 Census records
for Orwigsburg, Schuylkill county, PA, show Daniel, age 53 (born 3/1848) in the
household of his daughter Susanna (BBACFB).
Daniel's
first wife was Louisa Bock. Based on
Civil War pension records, Daniel apparently married twice; his second wife was
Amanda Winters.

appears in the 1880 Census records for Schuylkill county, PA, in his father's
household.
BBACG Joseph
R.
Census records indicate Joseph married
twice. His first wife was the daughter
of Philip Swigart; she seem to have died about 1870 after the birth of son
Charles. Joseph then remarried; his
second wife was named Levina (Lavina).
Joseph first
appears in the 1850 and 1860 Census records for Schuylkill county, PA, in his
father's household. Next, the 1870
Census records for Schuylkill county show Joseph, age 21, and Charles, age five
months -- Joseph's first wife is not listed.
The 1880
Census records for Allentown, Lehigh county, PA, show Joseph, age 29; Levina,
age 26; and Annie, age 5.
The 1900
Census records for Allentown show Joseph, age 50 (born 6/1849); Levina, age 47
(born 4/1853); married daughter, Annie E. Kock, age 25 (born 10/1874); and five
other children born after 1880. The
1900 Census also indicates that Joseph and Levina had been married for 27 years
(i.e., married about 1873).
In brief, the
Census records indicate that Levina was Joseph's second wife -- his first wife
probably died about 1870; her maiden name must have been Swigart. See entry for Charles (BBACGA) below.

David was
born about 1837, but he is not shown in the 1850 Census records for Schuylkill

next to David's parents. The 1870

parents, Joseph and Susanna. Schuylkill
county probate records in 1880 show that Caroline had remarried (her surname
was then Bock). These records show
Lewis J. (a minor child of David over 14) and Mary J.A. (a minor child of
David's under 14).
BBACKA William
William, age
2, appears in the 1860 Census records for Schuylkill county, PA, in his
